Nature is truly wild in Kissimmee, Florida, and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. Featured in an episode of The Kissimmee Experience, wildlife photographer and conservationist Carla Rhodes joined host Jen Bonner to explore the breathtaking beauty and biodiversity of Osceola County. From quiet conservation areas to thrilling airboat rides, Kissimmee offers countless ways to connect with nature, discover Florida’s rare species, and capture its untamed beauty.
Twin Oaks Conservation Area – A Hidden Gem for Nature Lovers
Located in St. Cloud, Twin Oaks Conservation Area is one of Kissimmee’s most scenic natural escapes. This 370-acre preserve is a haven for birdwatchers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, with peaceful boardwalks, shaded oak hammocks, and sweeping waterfront views. Visitors can spot native wildlife — from osprey and great egrets to the endangered Everglade Snail Kite — all while hiking, paddling, or enjoying a lakeside picnic.
For photographers and birders, the site offers the perfect blend of accessibility and serenity. As one of the few locations where the elusive Snail Kite can be seen in the wild, it’s a must-visit stop on any Central Florida eco itinerary.
As the largest lake in Osceola County, Florida, Lake Toho exceeded my expectations with its hidden treasures. I was thrilled to spot endangered Snail Kites, while the sight of prehistoric Wood Storks was a true delight, for I hold a special fondness for storks.

Spirit of the Swamp – Florida’s Original Thrill Ride
Nothing says “Florida adventure” quite like gliding across the headwaters of the Everglades on an airboat. At Spirit of the Swamp Airboat Rides, visitors experience the rush of wind and water as they zip through native wetlands teeming with wildlife. From gators basking along the banks to herons soaring overhead, every tour offers a new perspective on Florida’s wild heart.
Guests can choose smaller, more personal boats that allow for conversation with the captain, which is perfect for nature photographers or families eager to learn about Kissimmee’s ecosystem up close.

Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate – An Unexpected Eco Adventure
Beyond its luxury amenities, Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate surprises guests with an eco tour that reveals the natural beauty thriving on its 800-acre property. Guided by a Certified Florida Master Naturalist, the experience explores the resort’s wetlands and golf course ecosystems by golf cart and kayak. Visitors can spot dozens of bird species, playful alligators, and, if lucky, the stunning Roseate Spoonbill, a pink-feathered favorite among birders.
Because this guided experience is both educational and family-friendly, it’s one of the area’s most unique ways to enjoy nature without leaving the comfort of Kissimmee’s resort lifestyle.
So much wildlife to observe on the Eco Tour Adventure at Omni Resort.
Throughout my visit, my heart yearned for a glimpse of the majestic roseate spoonbill. As we prepared to conclude our filming, I was on the verge of letting go of this dream — until, in a breathtaking final moment, Captain Eric spotted a delicate, powder-pink spoonbill, reaffirming that Florida is indeed a magical place!
