A total cash purse of $25,000 is up for grabs, split between Men's, Women's, Senior and Team categories. The tournament will be set up similar to professional level golf tournaments, playing multiple days and the lowest number of stroke (kicks) wins. Holes range in length from 66 yards to upwards of 175 yards, with the total distance across 18 holes being around 3,000 yards. To put that in perspective, a soccer field is between 110 and 120 yards long!
Paul Barrett, Tournament Sales Manager for Reunion Resort, is responsible for designing the Footgolf course and bringing the professional level tournament to Reunion. When asked about his motivation, Barrett said, "With the growth of soccer in Central Florida, we thought it would be fun to bring Footgolf to our Watson course and provide our guests with a unique experience."
The Watson course is the obvious choice to have the Footgolf course for one reason: there are zero water hazards to worry about. What the course lacks in water, it makes up for with sand traps and dramatic undulations, which may arguably affect a soccer ball more than a golf ball. While Footgolf is a great sport for all ages and abilities, this course set up is sure to be a challenge, even for the professionals.
The event is free for spectators, but parking fees at the resort will apply. To learn more click here.
