Approximately 1,000 new vacation homes are anticipated in the development of the $750 million Margaritaville Resort Orlando, positioned on the same site as the former Splendid China attraction. Construction is underway on the resort that will offer a varied mix of lodging, entertainment and relaxation. A 175-room hotel, 300 timeshare units, 30,000 square-feet of function space, 200,000 square feet of festive retail space, a dining and entertainment district, 12-acre water park, wellness center, miles of wooded fitness trails and a water taxi system are all included in the development plans. The 3-acre swimmable freshwater lagoon features natural sand beaches, the first and only in Central Florida, surrounded by cabanas and water activities, including paddle-boarding and snorkeling. The first phase of the resort expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
The first Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott branded hotel in Kissimmee opened its doors this summer with 150 interior guest rooms and suites. The resort is located four miles from Walt Disney World and includes amenities such as a poolperfect for relaxing and unwinding, a 24-hour fitness center and complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi in-room and around the hotel.
Encore Club at Reunion Resort, a new luxury vacation home community in Kissimmee, debuted this spring. This upscale 'resort within a resort' provides just the right touch of family-focused fun and elegant living. A tropical clubhouse crowns the center of the community surrounded by its very own water park filled with adrenaline-packed drop slide towers, pools, restaurant, bar, lounge and so much more! There are nearly 40 homes currently available to rent with an estimated additional 700 homes to be built by the end of 2018.
The first Red Lion-branded franchise location in Florida has opened in Kissimmee-the Red Lion LW1] Hotel Orlando - Kissimmee Maingate. It has 516 guest rooms, complimentary parking and Wi-Fi. Set on 23 sprawling acres with lush landscaping, stunning fountains, mesmerizing water views and community fire pits, the property has become a popular meeting space for engagement parties, bridal showers, weddings and receptions.
Magic Village Resort, a unique, luxury, concierge-style community with 180 houses featuring four different floor plans, exclusive services, privacy and comfort opened in the fall of 2015. The houses are beautifully designed by experienced and refined architects and are fully equipped with modern decoration. Experience international delights at their new restaurant, Villagio inspired by Italian, Mediterranean and Latin American Cuisine.
Nearly three decades after its opening, Old Town USA is being renovated and developed into a complex featuring dozens of unique shops, dining options and family-friendly amusement choice. The $10 million redevelopment includes a new interactive website, the return of the Old Town Ferris wheel, a reimagined entertainment district for events and concerts, new landscaping and water features and additional parking.
Fun Spot America Theme Parks recently announced a partnership with Old Town USA as well as an expansion of its Kissimmee Park. As part of the partnership, Fun Spot America will move and operate four family rides to Old Town USA's new south entertainment district. Along with the exciting partnership, Fun Spot is also adding a new attraction called Head Rush 360 as part of a $1 million investment by Fun Spot leaders.
The DOCKs at Shingle Creek, operated by The Paddling Center and located within Marsh Landing Regional Park, opened May 2016, adding more water access to Shingle Creek Regional Park and a new public access point to Shingle Creek's 23-mile waterway. The DOCKs offer accessible public canoe and kayak launch areas, as well as rentals for paddlers. Daytime and overnight trips to Osceola County's Makinson Island Conservation Area will be offered as well as guided electric boat tours along the creek. Park hours are sunrise to sunset.
The Cypress Canopy Cycle is back at Forever Florida and better than ever! This is no ordinary bicycle. Suspended up to 25 feet above, you'll pedal along some of Florida's most beautiful wetlands and pinelands. From your bird's-eye view you enter a world of pines, palms and cypress. Be on the lookout for native residents of this natural world -- owls, alligators, deer and others. You never know what might show up along your route!
The Gator Pavilion, Wild Florida Airboats' new 2,400-square-ft swamp-side covered deck is open for business! With plenty of rocking chairs, high-top bar seating and tables, the deck fits 100 people. Already popular for its airboat rides, the attraction looks to diversify itself this summer by adding crocodiles to its unique wildlife park.
Osceola County's first brewery, Reprise Brewing, opened up its doors this spring in Downtown St. Cloud. Run by local music instructors Jas Kigos and Steve Reid, the brewery's music theme comes alive in not just the name of the brewery, but also in the décor and how beer flights are served-on wooden quavers (musical note). The brewery will have about eight beers on tap, with the selection changing from season to season.
If locally brewed beer isn't your fancy, then perhaps wine is. Island Grove Wine Company at Formosa Gardens opening in late 2016 will feature wine demonstrations, a micro-brewery, a French pastry shop and over 3,000 sq. feet of meeting space for corporate meetings, weddings and festivals. A 5-acre botanical garden will grow organic fruits and vegetables, while maintaining sustainable agricultural practices that include biodynamic practices, permaculture and hydroponics.
