What's New for Kissimmee Meetings: Resorts, Roller Coasters, & Restaurants 

Kissimmee, Fla. (April 4, 2019) – Spring is here, and summer is just around the corner. That means the sun is shining in Kissimmee. So, take your meetings outdoors - experience extraordinary activities and wow-worthy adventures for attendees, or for friends and family who are just along for the rides. From new coasters to new entertainment, check out everything that’s new in sunny Kissimmee. 

All-New Attractions 

The highly anticipated land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, is set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 29. During the first phase of the opening, guests can experience the remote planet of Batuu and become part of the story by taking control of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Guests can expect the second phase of the land to open later this year featuring an immersive attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Experience the long-awaited new ride, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure this summer. Opening June 13 in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, this will be the most highly-themed coaster in the park yet. Guests will fly with Hagrid on a thrilling roller coaster ride that plunges into the path of some of The Wizarding World’s rarest magical creatures.   

Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street? It’s now at SeaWorld Orlando! The six-acre attraction allows guests to stroll down Sesame Street and stop by the famous stoop at 123. It features an award-winning parade, wet and dry play areas, rides, and an interactive neighborhood. 

THE LEGO MOVIE WORLD is now open at LEGOLAND Florida Resort. This expansion takes guests on an immersive journey from theater to the theme park and features three new rides and numerous attractions, all inspired by the characters and themes of the worldwide blockbusters, THE LEGO MOVIE and THE LEGO MOVIE 2: The Second Part.

Aquatica Orlando’s new high-adrenaline slide, KareKare Curl, will open mid-April. This thrilling attraction can be described as a “curve-shaped wave.” Riders will experience a weightless adventure when climbing the vertical wave wall. 

A drive-through safari park is expected to open this summer at Wild Florida Airboats & Gator Park. The adventure will allow guests to choose to drive their personal cars or ride on a guided swamp buggy tour through the park. Inside the drive-through park, guests will be able to see more than 100 exotic animals and native Florida wildlife like white-tailed deer, wild boar, cracker cows, zebras, watusi, and giraffes. Meeting space is available on property as well.

Old Town Kissimmee will unveil its last phase of renovation at the beginning of April. The reimagined Front Plaza is located next to Old Town’s 86-foot Ferris wheel. The additions include an all new Shoney’s, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, Bobby’s Garage Bar, five additional retail spaces, and 2,000 square feet of newly remodeled private space.  

Studio Movie Grill at Promenade at Sunset Walk at Margaritaville Resort Orlando is now open. Escape the "bored-room" and bring presentations to the big screen at this 40,000-square foot theater featuring 12 auditoriums and luxury lounge chairs and recliners with built-in call buttons for ordering food from the full-service bar and American grill. 

Cirque Theater features two new dinner shows: Cirque Magique and Cirque By Night. Both shows include unbelievable magical acts and multi-course meals. Groups can receive special rates and exclusive benefits by joining the Corporate Benefit Program, a free rewards program. 


The all-new Margaritaville Resort Orlando is now open. The resort features a 187-room Margaritaville Hotel, 1,000 Margaritaville-inspired vacation homes, and 300 timeshare units that provide the perfect getaway. Additional features include 30,000 square feet of function space, 200,000 square feet of retail space, a dining and entertainment district, a 12-acre water park, a wellness center, miles of wooded fitness trails, and a water taxi system.

The Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center is undergoing a $150 million expansion, expected to be complete by spring 2021. The expansion will add 303 guest rooms to the resort's current 1,416 room inventory and 90,000 square feet of meeting and pre-function space. Once complete, the expansion will bring the total convention, meeting, and pre-function space at Gaylord Palms to approximately 490,000 square feet. 

Red Lion Orlando Lake Buena Vista South recently re-opened in the 192 Kissimmee Corridor following a $20 million renovation. The hotel features 410 rooms and state-of-the-art amenities, including a picturesque pool area, lazy river, fitness center, two onsite restaurants and bars, 1,120 square feet of flexible event space, tennis and basketball courts, a children’s playground, complimentary Wi-Fi, and free transportation to area theme parks.  

Technical and Medical Facilities 

BRIDG at NeoCity, a 500-acre technology district in Kissimmee, is aimed at developing advanced semiconductor designs for microelectronics, nano-electronics, sensors, fiber optics, and photonics. The 50-year master development plan includes eventually adding meeting venues and small-scale event spaces. 

Two well-known Kissimmee medical meeting facilities recently changed names. At the start of the new year, all Florida Hospital facilities became AdventHealth. The rebrand affects two Kissimmee health centers, which are now AdventHealth Nicholson Center and AdventHealth Celebration.


Whether you have a group of 30 or 3,000, Disney Springs is the perfect place to host a group event. With the “Show Your Badge Program,” groups can receive benefits and discounts to more than 45 world-class restaurants and retailers. Here’s what’s new and on the horizon at Disney Springs: 

  • A bit of Spanish flare is sparking excitement at Disney Springs. Jaleo is James Beard Award-Winning Chef José Andrés' largest restaurant to date. It features an extensive menu of tapas reflecting the rich regional diversity of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine, as well as sangrias and a premier selection of Spanish wines.
  • Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, now open, offers everything from Mediterranean flavors to innovative takes on comfort food classics, Puck brings the essence of laid-back California dining to Central Florida.
  • NBA Experience, opening August 12, 2019, brings NBA thrills to life. Walk through a players’ tunnel, step into the impressive replica of a modern-day NBA arena, and try your hand at over a dozen games and challenges. 
  • Discover classic American cuisine and more than 90 local and global varieties of beers on tap at City Works Eatery & Pour House, opening late 2019. 

Rock & Brews Restaurant recently opened at Promenade at Sunset Walk in the new Margaritaville Resort Orlando entertainment district. This restaurant, owned by KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, specializes in fresh comfort food made from scratch and local craft beer

Special Events

Make sure to stop and smell the roses at Walt Disney World’s 26th Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival until June 3. The event features dozens of Disney-crafted topiaries, the Garden Rocks Concert series, and more.

Experience SeaWorld Orlando’s unforgettable nighttime event, Electric Ocean, returning for another summer of fun from May 21 to Sept. 1. With exciting shows and electrifying music, guests are immersed in a sea of wonder that ends in “Ignite,” a spectacular finale with fireworks, lasers, and fountains.
