As the days grow longer and grey dreary days fade into the distance, families are planning ahead and dusting off their suitcases in preparation for the great summer getaway. Data from leading digital travel platform Booking.com has revealed the top trending family destinations, based on where Brits are searching for this year.  

British families are broadening their cultural horizons and looking further afield this summer, with searches for trips to the continent of Africa up by 10% and Asia up 13% (YOY). Florida, Morocco and Malaysia all top the list of trending destinations, with interesting additions also including Bangkok, Thailand, famed for its bustling streets and incredible cuisine, and Ubud, Indonesia, a tropical paradise surrounded by rainforest and terraced rice paddies.

When it comes to choosing this year’s family holiday destination, 45% of families say discovering new places is a key motivator, while 59%rank spending quality time as the main reason for travelling this year. While over half of families (53%) are looking for good value for money as they decide on their summer holiday destination.  

With rest, relaxation and ultimate comfort top of mind, over a quarter of British families (26%5) say they would likely allocate travel budget to having someone care for their child or children on their trip, and 70%1 say air conditioning is the most important amenity when booking a place to stay.   

But it’s not just Brits who will be jetting off this summer. Booking.com's research found that Europeans as a whole will have the best travelled children, with 42% of flight searches by Europeans including at least one child. Kids living in Asia and North America round out the top three at 33% and 32% respectively.3 

Meanwhile Europe itself is proving to be a big draw for families this summer, with several key European destinations trending in the global top 10, with Durres Albania topping the list alongside three destinations in Spain and one in Croatia.
