The AAU Basketball World Championships will take place from July 4 through July 21 at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. An estimated 8,700 participants across 732 teams, representing both boys’ and girls’ divisions, will travel to the area to compete. The event is the largest AAU Basketball World Championships to date.
“We are delighted to partner with AAU Basketball to bring these young athletes to the Central Florida area,” said Tyler Weyant, Sports Development Manager of Kissimmee Sports Commission. “This partnership will generate an increased economic impact for the region along with providing a platform to showcase our destination. We are excited to welcome athletes, coaches and their families to experience Kissimmee’s plethora of attractions, accommodations, fine dining options and eco-tourism attractions in the destination during their stay.”
The Kissimmee Sports Commission is a brand extension that falls under Experience Kissimmee, the tourism sales and marketing authority for Osceola County. “Events like these benefit the athletes by teaching them good sportsmanship, promoting healthy competition, and creating life-long memories, while also benefitting the community,” said Jennings “Rusty” Buchanan, AAU President & CEO. “It’s a mutually beneficial relationship. Hopefully, the athletes will hold on to those memories and want to come back and visit Central Florida again and again.”
