Tips for Throwing the Best Pool Party Ever

Like Sebastian says in The Little Mermaid, “It’s better down where it’s wetter!” And while he was talking about life under the sea, we’re talking about taking a dip with your closest friends in an awesome Kissimmee pool. Before splish-splashing the day away, here are a few tips for hosting an unforgettable pool party when you’re vacationing in Central Florida.

Stay Cool in the Pool

Most importantly, to have a pool party, you need a pool. Luckily, as the Vacation Home Capital of the World®, it’s easy to find the perfect place to stay (complete with a fantastic pool) right here in Kissimmee. Is a water slide essential for the party? No problem. Looking to take the fun inside? We have indoor pools. Maybe you want to slip into the hot tub after a day of fun? Relax (literally!), we have it covered.

Fantastic Floaties for All

Every pool party needs a floaty (or two, or seven) for lounging on the water. Whether it’s a traditional donut or colorful inflatable unicorn, floaties are the ultimate pool party accessory. Get yours at one of the many shops here in Kissimmee, take turns riding the waves, and snap the perfect group selfie with your floaty friends (and be sure to tag us in it on Instagram).

Hooray for Sunscreen

When it’s time for fun in the sun at the pool party, sunscreen is a must. We recommend choosing a water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 35. That way you’ll always feel comfortable while swimming. Make sure to take a break to reapply every two hours, and remember those hard-to-reach places like the middle of your back.

It's Game Time

Games are a great way to spend time at any pool party! We love setting up the volleyball net across the pool, getting out the hoops for a game of water basketball, and, of course, epic games of Marco Polo all day long. Another popular water game here in Kissimmee is hunting for buried treasure, where you collect items resting on the bottom of the pool.

Snacks and Refreshments

Playing in the pool is sure to work up everyone’s appetite, so be sure to have snacks and refreshments on hand. These could be anything from healthy snacks like Florida oranges and other fruits to ice-cold pitchers of water, lemonade, and punch. Still feeling hungry? Choose a vacation home with an outdoor grill, so you can cook up an entire meal for all your guests without leaving poolside. Wondering what to cook? Check out these 10 delicious recipes to try at your vacation home!

Oh, and if you really want everyone to think you’re a genius (as well as an epic pool-party planner), be sure to have a floaty cooler on hand. Cute and convenient, a floaty cooler can easily be filled with ice and drinks, so you may never have to leave the pool again!

Make Sure There's Music

Chilling by the pool is even better when listening to tunes. Make a playlist and stream it to a portable Bluetooth speaker to really get the party going. Many Bluetooth speakers are even waterproof, so it’s okay if they get a little wet throughout the day. Singing along to your favorites while swimming with your favorites? Sounds like music to our ears.

Get the Perfect Umbrella (Ella, Ella, Eh, Eh, Eh)

Want to spend a little time in the shade? A large beach (or in this case, pool) umbrella is an essential accessory for a day by the water. Just set up, sit back, and keep comfortable until it’s time to take the plunge.

The More Towels the Better

Make sure when it’s time to get out of the pool that everyone has a fresh towel for drying off. And have a few extras if a guest decides they want to go back in the pool later on. Your best option is to store them all in one place poolside, so everyone knows exactly where to find them.
