Looking straight out over the horizon, I could make out the skyline of downtown Orlando, the area's massive convention hotels and sprawling resorts, and even some of the most iconic landmarks of Walt Disney World Resort - Cinderella's castle at the Magic Kingdom® and Spaceship Earth at Epcot®, among others. But when I looked down, all I could see was my tiny shadow cast on a pond some 300 feet below.
Funspot's SkyCoaster is one of the many thrills adrenaline junkies seek in Kissimmee. Once at the top, a loudspeaker joyfully announces that you've reached the summit of the world's tallest skycoaster. And then it's time to pull the ripcord, drop straight down, and swing like a pendulum just feet above the pond's centerpiece fountain.
After you brave the drop (and maybe grab some cold suds in the flight deck to calm the nerves afterward), check out some of these other thrillseeker favorites in Kissimmee:
Incredible Hulk at Universal's Island of Adventure® This rollercoaster is the closest thing many of us will ever get to flying in a fighter jet. Recently refurbished for an enhanced queue experience, the ride itself remains relatively unchanged from its debut in 1999, and for good reason. The rollercoaster looks much like any other thrilling coaster, complete with loops and inversions, but you'll quickly notice the trademark roar of the trains gliding along the tracks. Once you depart the loading station, you're propelled uphill from 0-40 mph in about two seconds - you'll essentially feel the force of gravity double within seconds of the start of the ride. And the thrills only build from there.
Manta at SeaWorld Orlando® SeaWorld is home to many great rollercoasters, but there's just something special and unique about Manta. Although Mako takes the crown as the area's tallest, longest, and fastest, Manta provides a new perspective and sensation for rollercoaster-loving thrillseekers. You'll board the train much like any other floorless coaster, but just before you depart the loading station, your seat tilts to a near horizontal prone position. Loops, rolls, and turns feel completely different as you stare straight down on this coaster.
Summit Plummet at Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park As you cross the edge of the precipice of this 12-story waterslide, you'll think you're about to launch off a gigantic ski slope. In reality, you'll enter a concealed tube as you accelerate down one of the world's tallest and fastest freefall slides. It's an ideal way to get a dose of adrenaline as you cool off in Florida's warm, sunny weather.
The thrills don't stop with the list above. Central Florida's famous theme parks and other attractions will provide you with days of adrenaline-pumping excitement.
