“Do-nut” Miss These Doughnuts

What do Homer Simpson, Miranda Hobbes, Dexter, and Buster Bluth all have in common? A love affair with circular, sugary pieces of heaven, or doughnuts. This year, National Doughnut Day is June 2. And unlike National Lima Bean Respect Day or Chocolate-Covered Insect Day, this day for indulgence oozes with history. Established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army, National Doughnut Day was created to honor "donut lassies," the women who served doughnuts to soldiers in the trenches of World War I. To celebrate this delicious doughy day, here are a few of places to pick up a dozen or two.
