Tuesday, January 31 is National Plan for Vacation Day! Spearheaded by Project: Time Off, National Plan for Vacation Day is part of their movement to change American attitudes and behavior. Time off is essential to personal wellbeing, professional success, business performance, and more, but Americans don't use 658 million vacation days each year.

To encourage people to use their vacation time, Project: Time Off designated January 31 as National Plan for Vacation Day. A majority of people (51 percent) who plan their vacations take all of their accrued vacation time, while only 39 percent of the people who don't plan use up all their time. And people who plan their vacations are happier with the results than people who don't:

  • Most people who plan vacations (85 percent) report they are happier in their relationships, compared to 72 percent of non-planners. More people who plan vacations (81 percent) say they are happy with their financial situations, compared to 71 percent of non-planners. A majority of people who plan vacations (90 percent) say they are happy with their professional success, compared to 82 percent of non-planners.
