Old Town: A Kissimmee, Florida Classic
Since 1986, Old Town in Kissimmee has been entertaining locals and visitors alike with its signature brand of good eats, great shopping, family entertainment and famous car cruises. It's a nostalgic place for many, with a retro vibe reminiscent of the 50s and 60s. Take a stroll through Old Town's shops and you'll feel as if you're in another time and place-a place where you can relax, unwind and enjoy the moment. Here are just a few reasons why you should shop, eat and play at this famous Kissimmee landmark.
If you're a classic car enthusiast, Old Town's weekly car shows can't be missed. Kissimmee is home to one of the most well-known classic car events: the Saturday Nite Cruise. Every Saturday night, these beauties go cruising to the delight of onlookers.
On Wednesday nights, step back in time with Little Darlin's Street Party and Cruise-In, where music from the 50s and 60s fills the air. Bring your doo-wop dancing shoes because this street party will get your motor running.
On Friday nights, all-American muscle cars hit the streets in a showcase of show-quality automobiles. Don't expect to see any new rides hitting the streets, as this showcase of speed is for cars made before 1988.
Sunday nights are reserved for the Sunday Show N' Shine, which features show-quality trucks, jeeps and SUVs. Come for the cruise-in, stay for the live music.
Old Town boasts more than 70 stores, so you won't have any trouble finding that special something. Looking for theme park souvenirs but don't want to pay theme park prices? Annie's Gifts has been providing quality Florida and Disney souvenirs for more than 20 years. At Old Town Portrait Gallery, you can even become your own souvenir by posing for photos in pirate, cowboy and other period garb.
All that shopping has made you hungry. Thankfully, you don't have to go far to find some great grub. Southern Breeze is a local classic that serves up American cuisine in a casual atmosphere. For a great evening, sit out on the deck and enjoy the live music playing from Old Town's Main Stage. And be sure to order the famous fried gator. Another favorite hangout is Blue Max Tavern, a pub with an aeronautical theme inspired by owner Byron Sutton, a trained pilot. The food and libations will draw you in, and the karaoke will keep you there. Anyone up for a Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone" sing-along?
While the attractions at Old Town have changed over the years, the fun hasn't. You'll find a wide range of entertainment options. For folks looking for a scare, Legends: A Haunting at Old Town is a chilling haunted house tour that uses actors, sets and special effects to put you in the center of a terrifying tale.
For the whole family, the Happy Days Family Fun Center at Old Town has more than 50 arcade and skill games. Test your luck and redeem tickets for prizes at a gigantic redemption center. Feel the need for speed and take a spin around the go-kart track, which offers single- and double-seat cars.
Set your sights on Rootin & Tootan's Shootin' Alley, a shooting gallery filled with interactive targets. Half the fun is seeing what happens when you hit your target. Aim straight!
Rounding out Old Town's attractions is The Great Magic Hall, one of the area's newest entertainment options. Settle in for a magical experience that is sure to excite even the most skeptical viewers. The hall offers both small and large shows. You can even buy a magic kit to take back home with you.
