Community Collaboration and #InstaMeetKissimmee

This Saturday, August 5th we’re excited to be hosting our very first #InstaMeetKissimmee! At Experience Kissimmee, we often talk about how we can better engage and grow our local community. It’s important for us to give back, and have fun with this great destination that we love to share with visitors from around the world.

Why an InstaMeet

We find some of our most engaging audiences on Instagram. Every day on our account we answer questions, share amazing photos taken by Instagrammers like you, and learn more about the story of Kissimmee than we could ever dream of, or do, alone.

After coming across so much great UGC (that’s short for ‘user generated content’) on our Instagram channel, we knew there were a lot of talented local and visiting photographers in the area, and we wanted the chance to get out, meet them, and have some fun together making creative photographs.

Collaborating with our partners

We wanted to make this event really special, so we’ve joined up with several of our partners on the ground in Celebration to create some unforgettable shots, and opportunities to meet local businesses.

  • Celebration Golf Club

They’ve planned some special treats along the way for our Instagrammers, and will also provide a nice shelter in case we get some rain!

Building community

When we launched the #InstaMeetKissimmee Facebook Event last Wednesday, with a goal of 30 people together for this Saturday, we never dreamed we’d get such a positive response.

The event filled up in just 3 hours.

Everyone! Thank you for making our dreams come true. Seeing the quick and positive response to this has us dreaming about more community events we can host in the future.

Next week on the blog we’ll be sharing a behind-the-scenes post to let you know how it all goes on Saturday. Even if you won’t be joining us in Celebration this Saturday, you can still follow along on our journey on Instagram using the hashtag, #InstaMeetKissimmee. We’ll also be doing some Instagram stories on the day, so tune in to see what we’re up to!

InstaMeet Day Plan + Tips

On Saturday, we’ll be meeting outside the Bohemian Hotel in Celebration at 10 a.m. We’ll gather, introduce ourselves, hand out our route maps, and explain the Instagram games, then we’ll head out on our walk.

From start to finish our route is about a 20-minute walk, but have you ever traveled with a photographer before? We’ll be traveling slower—photographer pace—so everyone has a chance to get the shots they want.

After the walk, we’ll head over to Celebration Town Tavern around 12 p.m. We’ll get some snacks and refreshments and wind down the InstaMeet by announcing our game prize winners, and answering Q&As about mobile photo editing, shooting, and Instagram.

INSTAMEET TIP #1: Post your photos during the meet! It’s tempting to wait until you get home, but at the end of the meet we’ll be regrouping to give out prizes and pick some photos to feature on our account.

INSTAMEET TIP #2: At the start of the InstaMeet we’ll be taking a group photo and posting it to our @ExperienceKissimmee Instagram account. Leave a comment on the photo so other Instagrammers attending the meet can follow you and you can stay in touch!

INSTAMEET TIP #3: Be yourself and don’t worry about anyone else! There will be all sorts of skill levels at the InstaMeet. The most important thing is that you show up ready to have fun.

INSTAMEET TIP #4: Props are encouraged! From silly hats to moustaches, anything you can share that makes photos fun is welcome. Just make sure you can carry it with you.

INSTAMEET TIP #5: You don’t need a professional camera! If you have a smartphone and an Instagram account, you’re set.

INSTAMEET TIP #6: It’s not just photography nerds! InstaMeets are super friendly. You do spend a lot of time taking photos, editing, and uploading, but for the most part it’s about the social experience.

We can’t wait to InstaMeet you in Celebration!

We’d also love to hear from you! What types of events would you like to see Experience Kissimmee host in the future? Would you like us organize another InstaMeet? Are you coming out on Saturday? Let us know in the comments.
